Our Connection to the Little Bushkill Creek

Plainfield Township, Northampton County, PA. is located within the Little Bushkill Creek Watershed. For years The Township has invested thousands of dollars and much effort in clean up and testing to bring the Little Bushkill Creek back to a quality waterway:

The Little Bushkill Creek discharges into the Bushkill Creek near Stockertown. The Bushkill Creek is a tributary to the Delaware River.

In 2021 the Nazareth Borough Municipal Authority (NBMA) purchased Preserved Farmland in Plainfield Township with the intention of spreading biosolids, they produce in their own sewage treatment plant, on the property. The Hower Road property purchased by the NBMA has a quality waterway on it. This stream and water runoff flow into small streams and wetlands on other private properties and then into the Little Bushkill Creek. We are concerned that applying Biosolids on this property will harm the watershed and endanger those residents with contact to this water flow. Small children can easily have surface contact with this water while they are playing in their own backyards. The Plainfield Township Recreation Trail is a short distance away from the NBMA dumping area. According to www.traillink.com the Plainfield Township Recreation Trail crosses the Little Bushkill Creek 5 times. Often, when walking on the trail, you can see children and adults enjoying the creek water.

The first step towards stopping Nazareth Borough Municipal Authority from spreading class B biosolids on this property, 6249 Hower Road, and protecting our waterways is to appeal the 30 Day Notice they have sent to the DEP.
